Program Structure
EMERGE is an eight week somatic program to support grieving. Held in three week modules, each week has a 2 hour live on-line small group (max 12 people) class session with optional home practice along with supporting resources. There is a one week guided integration break after completing each module. Each class will explore gentle somatic exercises and practices along with discussion topics to understand the effect of grief and how to somatically support the grieving body and mind. The three modules are Grieving in a world that doesn't know how to grieve, Grieving with and through our body and Hope and Feeling the Heart of Grieving.
The primary focus will be methods and practices that we can experience through the body, enhancing and deepening these with discussion and writing. Somatic approaches, based in neurobiology research, greatly support, ground and process difficult emotions associated with trauma and grief. These limbic therapies bring back a sense of balance, control and resilience by working with the nervous system and brain to restore regulation and homeostasis.
Grieving is not linear and there is no right or wrong way to grieve. This course is not to “fix” anything but is a resource toolbox for grievers. It’s a place of support, to check in with each other and an online community. The course offers a collection of curated thoughtful, gentle strategies you will be able to use while grieving. You will understand what is happening in your body, brain and nervous system when grieving. It is a safe space where we can honor our own grieving at our own pace in the healing presence of others who are grieving.
No previous movement experience is necessary.

What is our intention for the program?
We want to give people a safe space and time for healing, honoring each person's process, and recognizing each person as important, worthy and powerful.
We want to share valuable information about grief, grieving and trauma, so each can begin their own journey to grieve and heal.
We want to create a supportive environment, a place for people to be as they are in their grief, to hold a space of hope when it may feel there is none.
We want to share valuable tools for processing grief, using the nervous system for centering and the body for supportive grounding.
Who did we have in mind when we created this program?
For anyone grieving, who have experienced any kind of loss, experienced trauma, pregnancy loss, unresolved or estranged relationships, infidelity, broken family bonds, spiritual betrayal, life changing event.
What are the benefits
A safe space to grieve your own way and honor the loss on your own terms, support and resources for healing and for grief that has lasted a very long time, a place to acknowledge the physical and emotional toll of grief and the impact the grieving process has on all the parts of who we are, time to understand the effects of grief on your brain and nervous system, how to use the body as we grieve, self care focus that can reduce anxiety, depression and guilt, how to maintain connection to others as well as to what was lost.

Our life journey has always returned us to healing.
You could say that it’s all we’ve ever done and will ever do.
We may have many titles, qualifications and life experiences but at present we are answering the call to support people on their healing journey.

When I was younger I would have looked back on my life as a series of traumatic events that continually created hardships for me. Now I see it very differently.
With the current change of perspective, trauma has now become accepted and almost a natural part of living and even considered important for personal growth. Now I see my personal healing journey as not only for integrating myself but for helping others with this difficult path. What was once kept to the counseling room, I am now able to offer more people online.
My life’s journey has been all about becoming whole again. After experiencing many traumatic events in my life I came to learn the importance of healing in its many forms. My natural calling to help others drove me to become skilled holistically. I became a therapist, naturopath and a spiritual guide. Even with all these modalities that I could offer my clients I found that these did not address the underlying issue we face as human beings. We can heal the mind, the body, the spirit but fundamentally if we don't feel safe within our own skins it’s all bandaid. I believe this is the missing link that is critical to healing and integration. We have a right to feel safe. It is what we need and deserve.
Joy and an openness to explore our own being is the goal of my work in helping others on their healing journey.

I had a deep intuitive knowing from a young age that I needed to dance. I loved movement in all its forms and experienced surprising transformations through moving my body. I decided to study dance full-time at university and it was there I began my training in gentle somatic methods. I was amazed to experience profound levels of healing through the work. It sparked a curiosity in me about how movement could have such a big impact.
At the same time I was engaging in service in my community, volunteering with battered women, working with young children, helping neglected and abused dogs. I saw how many people were disconnected from their bodies, often understandably so under the circumstances.
It was so clear to me through all of these experiences that the body holds a wisdom beyond what most people realize. It seemed to me the body held the answers to most deep change and healing.
It became a passion and I embarked upon over twenty years of research and practice into somatic and other methods of healing and transforming body and mind. Things like yoga, meditation, Qi Gong, sacred and contemporary dance forms, the hows and whys the body is the key. I found life, vitality, joy. I wanted to shout what I had learned from the rooftops. We all have a body. Anyone can do this. I developed a deep desire to share those methods that had worked for me and make these more accessible to others.
When Giselle and I reconnected, it seemed our lives had been following parallel paths that always brought us back to healing. I felt called to support others on their healing journeys. The Embodiment Institute was born out of our friendship and this collaboration, this deep wish to share.
